Navigating Budapest on Your Stag Weekend

Budapest is one of those cities where you don’t need to worry about renting a car – the public transport network has your back. Trams, buses, and metros connect pretty much every corner of town, and it’s all dirt cheap compared to Western Europe. The four metro lines are the backbone of the system. Metro Line 1 (the yellow one) is not only historic – it’s continental Europe’s very first underground. Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 keep things fast between Buda and Pest. And here’s a bonus for your bachelor weekend in Budapest: by 2026, the metro is expected to run almost all night, which means no more sprinting for the last train after pre-drinks.

Until then, you’ve got the city’s legendary trams. Tram 2 glides along the Danube with postcard views of Parliament, while Tram 6 is the true party hero – it runs 24/7 along the Grand Boulevard. Miss the last metro? No problem, just hop on a night tram and keep the adventure rolling. Tickets are simple: a single ride is around €1, or you can grab a 24- or 72-hour pass if you plan on exploring.  The easiest way to sort it is the official Budapest Go app, where you can buy and validate tickets straight from your phone. No paper, no stress.

Of course, Budapest also has scooters and shared bikes (Lime's green stations are everywhere), if you’re feeling energetic after a long night. Just maybe don’t try weaving through traffic after a few pálinkas.

Bottom line: getting around Budapest is cheap, easy, and part of the fun. From ruin pubs to thermal baths, everything is just a tram or metro ride away – and sometimes the ride itself becomes part of the stag weekend story.
